SSL Certificate Checker

Verify issuer, validity, expiry, and certificate grade in seconds

Check the SSL/TLS certificate of any HTTPS website. Many phishing sites now use free SSL certificates to appear legitimate — our tool reveals the certificate issuer, coverage, and validity so you can spot the difference between a genuine certificate and a fraudulent one.

What Is an SSL Certificate?

An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) or TLS (Transport Layer Security) certificate is a digital credential that authenticates a website's identity and encrypts data between the visitor's browser and the server. The padlock icon in your browser's address bar means an SSL certificate is present — but it does not mean the site is safe or legitimate.

SSL Does Not Mean Safe

Phishing sites and scam websites routinely obtain free SSL certificates from providers like Let's Encrypt. This gives them the padlock icon and HTTPS prefix that many users equate with trustworthiness. Our SSL checker reveals the certificate issuer so you can distinguish between a certificate issued to a validated organisation (OV or EV certificate) and a free domain-validated (DV) certificate that any scammer can obtain in minutes.

Understanding the Certificate Grade

Grade A — Certificate is valid and not expiring within 30 days. Secure.
Grade B — Certificate is valid but expiring within 30 days. Action needed.
Grade F — Certificate has expired. The site's HTTPS connection is not trustworthy.

What Are Subject Alternative Names (SANs)?

SANs list every domain and subdomain that the certificate covers. A certificate legitimately covering many unrelated domains may indicate a shared hosting certificate — common on scam sites that share infrastructure to reduce costs.
